Amfissa Olive Grove

Amfissa's olive grove is the largest unified olive grove in Greece and one of the oldest, since it's age is about 3000 years. Its first olive trees were planted by the race “Pelasgoi”. “Aioleis” continued the cultivation. From Delfi to Kirra and from Elaionas to Erateini, almost 1200000 olive trees compose one of the most beautiful landscapes in Greece. Certified as traditional olive grove, it is protected by special rules and its being cultivated in ways that do not affect its traditional character. A walk in the grove offers the imposing picture of the old trees, some of which are taller than 10m. The walker will realise the special characteristics each of the tree has, he will see the marks of time in their magnificent shapes and the undefined colour of the leaves, which changes all the time, as it always depends on the light of the moment. In Automn and in Winter months one can watch the way the farmers collect the olives, the same way people were doing it in ancient times.

The olives that are being producted in the grove are all edible and collected by hand. “Amfissa's olives” are big, round , tasty and juicy and you can eat them in several ways and multiple recipies, pickled, pulp or even as a sweet. The olive oil prodused from these olives is also of high quality.
